The blog warns that the tool is intended only for developers of jailbroken apps, and that unlockers should stay away, or risk losing their unlockable baseband. The redsn0w beta runs on third- and fourth-generation iPod touch, iPad , iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 (both CDMA and GSM version).

5 Great iOS 5 Features Apple Didn't Bother to Mention

When Apple introduced iOS 5 at this year's WWDC, they touted the fact that their latest version of iOS offered over 200 new features, but chose to highlight only a small handful of them. Will messages sent via iMessage use up my text messages?

A lot of people have been asking this question. The simple answer is no.

iMessage messages are not sent via your wireless provider, whether it be Verizon, AT&T, Orange or any other provider. These messages are managed and delivered by Apple, and as such have no impact on your text (SMS) or multimedia (MMS) messaging plans through your provider.

Please note, however, that messages sent via the Messages app on the iPhone to users that are not iOS 5 device owners will count against your monthly SMS / MMS message limits.

What is iMessage?

iMesssage is Apple's new messaging platform / application specifically for iOS 5 users. Similar to traditional SMS text messaging and MMS messaging, users on any device running iOS 5 will be able to send text, picture, and video messages to each other via iMessage.

In short, this brings text and multimedia messaging to the iPad and the iPod Touch -- devices which previously only gained this ability through fairly clumsy third party applications.
