How do I fix iPhone Wi-Fi connection problems?

Some users have reported issues with slow speeds or trouble connecting to Wi-Fi networks with iPhone OS 3.0 and later firmware. iPhone owners who have jailbroken and/or unlocked their iPhones using blackra1n and blacksn0w have also reported problems.

These problems include the inability to connect to Wi-Fi, 3G and/or Edge, lack of push notifications and issues with the YouTube application. Fortunately there are several fixes you can try to correct these data issues on your iPhone:

1. Reset network settings. Touch Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings.

2. Still having problems? Touch Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings. Warning: You will lose all of your preferences.

3. For YouTube problems on jailbroken iPhones try installing youtubeFix from Cydia or another package installer.

4. Restore your iPhone as a new phone. This is a slow and tedious process but will reset your iPhone as if it was new from the factory. Although this should fix all of the above issues, you will have to reload your contacts and media onto the iPhone from the computer manually. To restore:

- Connect your iPhone to the computer.
- Run iTunes.
- Under the Summary tab select Restore.
- Select backup if you wish. When restoring as a new iPhone you will not use the backup.
- When the process is complete the iPhone will restart.
- When the Set Up You iPhone screen appears select Set up as a new iPhone.

Of course, after restoring a jailbroken iPhone you will lose the jailbreak and unlock functionality.

iPHONE 5 UPDATE: There are limited circumstances where iPhone 5 users are experiencing slow speeds or intermittent service when connected to Wi-Fi. There are two fixes that might help.

1. Entering manual DNS settings has been reported to help. Navigate to Settings -> Wi-Fi and touch the blue arrow next to your connected Wi-Fi network. Touch DNS and enter Google's DNS server address (either 8.8.4.4 or 8.8.8.8).

2. Router compatibility issues could mean that WPA2 Personal W-Fi security is causing the problem. Switching to WEP security or removing password security altogether can improve Wi-Fi speeds and connectivity.

I had same symtopms with my 3.X firmaware and iOS4 update did not help anything. Weird thing is that if I setup joikuspot wlan hotspot in my Nokia E90 iPhone can find that but not my dsl wlan.

joikuspot created ad-hoc hotspor so maybe there is some defference with connection method?

All my other computers and iPad finds all wlan's in the house.

hi,
im quite a noob when it comes to these things so could someone please tell me how is it possible to install wififofum or pushfix or anything of teh sort to fix wifi when i dont have wifi in the first place? is it possible to access cydia through my mac and ssh the application onto my iphone?
I upgraded my iphone to the 3.0 firmware and my wifi immediately stopped working. Ive done several downgrades and even upgraded to 4.0 with which the wifi seemed to work for about 20minutes until it stopped completely again so im back to the same problem.
If anyone has any information whatsoever as to how i might be able to solve this problem without using cydia or wifi from the iphone (as i have no wifi whatsoever), but rather access it through my macbook please inform me as i've almost given up completely on ever having wifi again on my iphone 2g.
Thanks!

hey i have exactly the same problem, have you fix your? please let me know how. thank you!!

Buy some data allowance from ur cellular network provider so you may download wififofum using 3G to reactivate wifi.

Yeah I've found that I have to do a hard factory reset and jailbreak about once a month, and I've never used these 2 programs, I used redsn0w, the "RESET NETWORK" seems to work, in that the wifi symbol shows up again, but any app I launch that requires wifi then changes it immediately back to EDGE. So to the anonymous poster I'd say, Yes I buy a DAY PASS from T-Mobile about once a month, and yes that seems to fix wifi, but only for a while, just like factory reset once a month and like the author of this post says, it is a LONG TEDIOUS process, usually taking me an entire day to restore only 6gb backonto my iPhone 1

this may be a solution to get wififofum into your mobile
add this repository in your cydia sources
http://cydia.myrepospace.com/IphoneAndTouch/
then go to bigboss after exiting back to cydia & select WiFiFoFum & install

I've installed wififoforum but it didn't work... help

i tried to install wififofum but got this error: http://apt.thebigboss.org
NetDB: Open nodename nor servname provided, or not known

help!

same here. any sol?

I have a iphone ver 3.1.13 the wifi only work 1 hour and dead ( No wifi)

PLEASE teach Me how to fix or change wifi
Than you

Hi, I had the same issue for months. I have 3GS, my router is a Netgear running DD-WRT. My internet router is a Comtrend, and I use the Linksys router to extend wifi over the office, since the Comtrend is weak.
I connect the iPhone to the Linksys and get internet OK.
I connect the iPhone to the Linksys and can access the router OK.
When I repeat the signal from the Comtrend to the Linksys, I can PING both routers, but no internet.
If I Reset the Linksys, i get PING to the internet for an hour, then ceases the internet.
If I reset the iPhone connection, I got no more than 11 PINGs, no matter how I do it.
If I Reset the Linksys router, I get one more hour (actually its a bit more than one hour)

It always happened to me with this configuration.

hi friends anyone can tell me how to use wi fi

Just like many, I too had problems connecting my new iPhone4 to my router and I think I may have the solution some of you may be looking for...

My router is a Netgear WGT624 router and I'm sure most router have similar functionality regarding MAC address filtering but under a different name... Netgear call it an "Access List" and if you have it turned on, you'll need to temporarily turn it OFF.

On the WGT624 router, click "Wireless Setting"
Next to "Wireless Card Access List", click "Setup Access List"
Turn OFF "Turn Access Control On".

Try connecting to the router now... You should be able to connect to it.

If you prefer to have Access Control turned on (for extra security) now you can (now that your iPhone is connected).

I hope this helps.

Hey guys I'm using an iPhone 3g on 4.2.1 firmware, and for around 3 weeks now my wifi has stopped working ever since I jailbroke my iphone using "jailbreakme.com". I've been using this iphone for 2 years with no problems and the wifi worked for around 3-4 hours after jailbreak and then suddenly stopped working. I've done full reset, network reset, restore, clean wipe etc etc but to no avail. Today after doing another wipe and this time rejailbreaking with redsn0w my iphone picked up my wifi for 5 seconds then after connecting it vanished again. I'm wondering whether this is a software problem now and not an unfixable hardware problem.
