Pandora Radio for iOS Gets Several Improvements

Pandora continues to improve its streaming music app for Apple devices with yesterday's release of version 4.4. Now available on the App Store, the latest Pandora Radio app on iOS incorporates several improvements. With Apple's own iTunes Radio service looming on the horizon, Pandora and other streaming music services have been working overtime to polish their offerings.

Regular Pandora users will notice the addition of an automatic pause when muting your device. This feature is handy when silence is needed, making sure that none of your favorite music is missed. When returning to Pandora the song can be resumed. Playback buffering has also been improved, which means that in situations without the greatest data connection the music will not be interrupted as easily.

Yelp Adds New Food Ordering Feature

Yelp users in select cities can now pay for food delivery or pick-up directly from the iOS app. Yelp began rolling out the new service called Yelp Platform in the U.S. on Tuesday. The new service allows iOS users to order from restaurants supported by "delivery.com and Eat24, like NYC's Harry's Italian Pizza Bar and Layaly Mediterranean Grill in SF," according to the official Yelp announcement. Yelp plans to roll out the platform category by category eventually adding new options like spas, yoga studios, salons and dentist appointments.

Yelp Platform will also be available through Yelps mobile or desktop websites, and an Android version is also in the works. Version 6.9.1 also brings a new preview screen after taking a photo. Current Yelp users can download the update starting today.

Apple Giving Away 10 Top Apps for Free

Now that the App Store is turning five years old, Apple is celebrating by offering 10 top iOS app titles for free. No less than five landmark games and five groundbreaking apps will be free to download and install for a limited time. July 10 marks five years since the App Store first opened in 2008.

While the store originally launched with 500 apps, there are currently 900,000 apps to choose from. Apple has also posted a timeline of milestones in the history of the iOS App Store. On June 10, more than $10 billion was paid out to developers, and on May 16 the store marked over 50 billion individual downloads.

New iPhone Unlock Animations Now Available

Not too long ago developer HASHBANG Productions brought iPhone owners the jailbreak tweak LiveWire, a free mod that changed the iOS unlock animation. After all, on every iOS device the animation that happens when unlocking to bring up the home screen is exactly the same. Now the same team has released LiveWire Pro, with even more creative transitions for unlocking.

Besides requiring a jailbroken device running iOS 5 or later, LiveWire Pro costs $0.99. So what does one get for their money? The pro version offers no less than seven different unlock animations to choose from, all configurable from the Settings once the tweak is installed.

iOS 7 Beta 3 Released, Brings New Tweaks and Bug Fixes

iOS 7 beta 3 has arrived right on schedule, two weeks after Apple released the second beta to developers. The third beta is currently available to download from the iOS Developer Portal. Just like iOS 7 beta 2, iOS 7 beta 3 brings several tweaks and enhancements to the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.
