iWorld Frees Up Unlocked French iPhones for Worldwide Use

It has been widely reported recently that iPhone sold as "unlocked" via Orange in France are not truly unlocked. Early reports indicated that this was because of a SIM country lock in effect on the unlocked phones. As it turns out, there is no actual country lock in effect, but due to either intentional crippling on Apple's part or simply a lack of proper support - unlocked 1.1.2 French iPhones crash when attempting to make calls or send text messages when a foreign SIM card is inserted. Now, thanks to a new tweak called iWorld, these phones can be freed up for use anywhere in the world using any SIM card.

Like all other third party tweaks and software, installing iWorld requires that you jailbreak your iPhone. Owners of 1.1.2 iPhones can jailbreak their phones by downgrading to firmware version 1.1.1, using the jailbreakme.com (or AppSnapp) 1-step jailbreak process, and properly upgrading to 1.1.2. Once jailbroken, users can quickly and easily install iWorld via

Holiday Reminder: Apple Gift Card iPhone Purchase Restrictions

Some months ago, Apple and AT&T changed their policy regarding the purchasing of the Apple iPhone to disallow cash and require a credit card. This move by the partnering companies was made in order to reduce or eliminate the number of untraceable iPhones that were purchased in order to be hacked and/or unlocked and sold on the gray/black market. What many did not realize was that this policy change also excluded the use of gift cards for the purchasing of iPhones as well. Well, sort of.

Goldman Sachs Predicts Two iPhone Upgrades for 2008

Goldman Sachs released predictions for the iPhone over the next year or so. In addition to predicting strong holiday sales for the iPhone and iPod, analyst David Bailey predicted that Apple will likely issue two upgrades to the overwhelmingly successful iPhone, instead of simply releasing the second generation model.

According to Bailey, Apple will release a "smaller" upgrade in the first half of 2008 which would basically be the existing iPhone with upgraded storage. Given the existence of the 16GB iPod Touch, it's not much of a stretch to imagine Apple releasing a 16GB iPhone a couple months after the holiday season closes. By doing such, Apple could potentially squeeze a few

Free Version of Navizon GPS for iPhone Now Available

Navizon, who released a third-party software GPS solution for the iPhone a few months ago, announced today that it is offering a new, free version of it's software. The previous version of the Navizon software offered a 15-day free trial after which the software expired. The new version will switch to a 'Lite' mode after the trial expires and allow users to continue enjoying Navizon's GPS services, albeit in a dumbed-down fashion.

The new Navizon Lite is basically a less accurate version of the fully-functional Navizon software. Instead of providing what Navizon claims to be the 10-30 meter accuracy of the full version of Navizon, Navizon Lite provides approximately 1500 meter accuracy (roughly a mile).

Essentially, Navizon Lite is Navizon without WiFi positioning. This limits Navizon's positioning abilities to cellular tower
