Apple Weekly News Roundup: Apple TV launch date announced, iOS 9.1 released and more

The fourth generation Apple TV will go on sale on Monday October 26.

Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) last week released updates for iOS, OSX and WatchOS. The iOS 9.1 update, which became available on Wednesday, mostly deals with bugs and stability issues, but also includes over 150 new emoji characters with full support for Unicode 7.0 and 8.0 emojis. New emojis include a unicorn, a burrito, a middle finger and what looks to be a guy levitating. OSX 10.11.1 and WatchOS 2.0.1 add the new emojis as well, and also include performance improvements and bug fixes.

New iOS Apps, Games and JB Tweaks of the Week: Zombies, zombies and more zombies

Baseball Apocalypse

It was a big week for zombies on the App Store with two highly anticipated post-apocalyptic titles releasing on Thursday. Zombie Deathmatch is a zombie fighting game where your goal is to build your own roster of zombie fighters. The game features three classes of zombies (Brutes, Maulers, Stalkers) and various fighters you can recruit and train. You can also unlock and buy new weapons, armour and fight your way through four Fighting Leagues with boss battles. Zombie Deathmatch is available for free on the App Store. It does include IAPS.

Baseball Apocalypse reminds me of the awesome free flash game Zombie Baseball, but instead of playing as a human with a baseball bat, you're a professional baseball robot. The goal of the game is to smash zombies and other post-apocalyptic beasts with your baseball bat and five baseballs. Baseball Apocalypse is available for $1.99 on the App Store.

Apple releases iOS 9.1 with over 150 new emoji characters

iOS 9.1

Apple has released iOS 9.1 with over 150 new emoji characters, Live Photo improvements and more. The update arrived after the Pangu Team released version 1.1.0 of their jailbreak tool. It is unknown if iOS 9.1 breaks Pangu 9, but it is likely, and users with jailbroken devices should avoid updating.

Update: Apple's security page for iOS 9.1 does include exploits used by the Pangu Team for their iOS 9 jailbreak tool. This means that iOS 9.1 will break the latest jailbreak and should be avoided if you want to keep your device jailbroken.
