Missing the days of record players, cassette tapes and compact discs? The days of the iPod may even be numbered now that Apple has changed the iPod app icon in iOS 5. If you're looking for a dose of nostalgia, here are some iPhone apps that will make your music player a little more interesting.

First off is AirCassette, which brings back the Sony Walkman and homemade mix tapes for $1.99. AirCassette is the most versatile of the bunch, and has graphics simulating several different blank tapes to choose from.

Ever wish you could carry around an old Super 8mm film camera in your pocket just to get that unique looking footage? The Super 8 iPhone app converts your iOS device into a retro film camera without all the trouble of film developing, light leaks and mechanical malfunction. The app even features a projection room, where you can pull down a screen and watch your edited creations.

Super 8 is free for a limited time, and is part of a promotion for the real-life movie directed by J.J. Abrams titled Super 8, which will be released by Paramount Pictures on June 10. As you play back your films in the projection room the app ties into the movie by revealing missing frames which can be collected to unlock clips on S8editingroom.com. When it comes to the recording capabilities of Super 8, the app is a full-featured retro film machine.

Square Enix has just released two classic games on the iPhone App Store. Final Fantasy was first introduced in 1987 and took the gaming world by storm. Those in North America might remember first playing Final Fantasy on a Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990.

The graphics and interface have been updated in the iPhone version and its sequel, Final Fantasy II. Both games include bonus dungeons not found in the originals and are available for $8.99 each.
