My iPhone ring/silent switch is stuck on mute, how can I turn on sound?
Some iPhone owners have had their ring/silent switch stop working. In some cases the switch gets stuck on ring, which means that entering silent mode requires special workarounds to fix. In other cases, the switch gets stuck on mute, which means your iPhone will only vibrate or be silent depending on the settings.
There is a fix for a mute button that's stuck on mute. Again, if you need to fix a ring button that won't go silent, check these instructions first. You can regain control of your iPhone and bring back the sound with the following instructions.
The best way to circumvent a broken ring/silent switch is with software. There is a jailbreak app that will allow you to control silent or ring modes without the switch, whether or not it's broken. The app requires that you jailbreak your iPhone and open the Cydia app store.
In Cydia, navigate to Sections -> Utilities or use the search function to find one of the following apps:For devices running firmware earlier than iOS 4.0, look for Auto Profiles Manager.
Those with newer iPhones should install Auto Silent.
Newest iPhone FAQs
Although this app will cost around $3 as of this writing, it's a small price to pay to bring back ringing functionality to your iPhone. Once installed, you can make your iPhone ring again by following these steps:
1. Run the AutoSilent app
2. Tap Disable iPhone Silent Switch
3. Touch OK to continue
Now you have circumvented your broken hardware switch and the iPhone should have normal sounds restored.
Note: Depending on whether or not your switch is stuck in mute or ring mode, enabling or disabling the hardware switch with Auto Silent will toggle the sound on your iPhone!

My iphone 5 toggle switch is reversed. When I slide it down the audio is on and when I slide it up, it mutes it. Is this a problem?

Hi, Here is the newest, cheap and easy way to do.
Appstore, find SilentAlert.
Buy the app.
Here you can turn Ring/Silent on or off.
Easy way, and no need for the flip on the side.

The actual app that replaces a broken mute switch in the App Store is SilentAlert.

This happened to me when a certain add popped up while I was playing a game. I finally found that if I hold the bottom button on the side of my iPhone 5s down while pushing in the top button several times it brings back the sound.

What I did was turn the phone off and then back on which makes it all work correctly again.

My 'silent/mute switch stopped working leaving the phone ringer on mute, despite the volume being up. I used your assistive touch advice. It didn't appear to work so I tried something. I 'muted' the phone via the assistive touch menu. Bizarrely, the phone now rings! Thanks for advice

You saved me! Thank you this worked. I went to the AT&T store and the rep said I'd have to go to Apple that they do some kind of work around to fix this, he said that is probably got wet and that I wouldn't be covered for a new phone if that was the case. I didn't think it go wet (even though we had a bad rain and I had an incident with my Iphone 6) . But this fixed it and it saved me !
Thank you so much!

Assistive touch - WAY TO GO ! The override works on my phone when the mute button is ON - so don't despair if you try it and it doesn't work first go - when the microphone has the line through it and it looks like it's actually muted it is in fact NOT MUTED - did the trick for me.
HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY
THANKS a 1,000,000,000,0000,000,000,000,000
