iOS 6 Dream Jailbreak Video Has Been Uploaded to YouTube: Is it a Fake? [Updated]

Update: Dream Jailbreak is a confirmed fake! After two days of hilarity, Dream JB's iOS 6 Jailbreak led to a Rick Roll.

The jailbreak community anticipated the greatest Rick Roll in internet history, but they got a dodgy jailbreak video instead. An unknown hacker calling himself "Dream JB," promised the world he would deliver an untethered iOS 6 jailbreak for all current iOS devices on December 22. The jailbreak community instantly smelled scam since he is not associated with any known dev team, and has chosen to remain anonymous. To prove he's legit, Dream JB promised video proof today that his jailbreak does work. After a long day of hilarious tweets calling him a fake, Dream JB delivered the first of two videos showing off his mysterious Dream Jailbreak.

There are already hundreds of YouTube comments questioning the authenticity of the video, and the well known iOS hacker chpwn already called it a fake on Twitter:

@DreamJailbreak Nice try, but aren’t you supposed to make the fake at least somewhat believable? It’s more fun when it’s not so obvious.

@DreamJailbreak (A tip: iOS boots to the lock screen, not the home screen. You only get that animation by exiting an app made to fake it.)

Adult Swim's Extinction Squad is Free for a Limited Time

I thought Extinction Squad from Adult Swim would get boring fast, but I found it fun and challenging enough to hold my attention for quite some time. I don't know if I would drop $0.99 on it, but luckily for everyone it's free this week.

Free iPhone Games

Extinction Squad is a very simple game, you must use your two scientist and a trampoline to bounce falling endangered animals into your truck. There is an Adventure mode, where you can unlock and travel to different locations such as Africa and Australia, and a Countdown mode, where you try to save as many animals as you can before time runs out.

Use iPhone Volume Buttons to Adjust Brightness

Manually adjusting the brightness of your iPhone screen can be inconvenient. Even on a jailbroken device with SBSettings, it takes a few steps to kick the brightness up or down with an on-screen slider. Now thanks to the Cydia tweak BrightVol, the side volume buttons can easily be used to adjust display brightness on the iPhone.

BrightVol brightness adjust

What makes this tweak so useful is that it won't interfere with normal operation of the volume buttons when needed. BrightVol is configured by default to use an Activator gesture to switch the volume buttons over to brightness. Just press both the up and down volume buttons at the same time, then you can adjust the brightness up or down.

Change iPhone Banner Colors With FlagPaint

Notification banners on the iPhone are pretty useful. Wouldn't it be great if you could make them even better? Now thanks to a jailbreak tweak called FlagPaint, there are additional options that can be configured for notification center banners. Just like the name, the main feature of this tweak is the ability to change the color of banners to match the app icon.

Cydia tweak FlagPaint

For example, if an app with a red icon such as iMap Weather Radio displays a banner alert, it will be tinted red if FlagPaint is enabled. There are several configurations under Settings -> FlagPaint once the tweak is installed from Cydia. The top setting is Tint Background, which automatically changes the color of incoming banner alerts depending on which app is sending the message.

Twitter Jumps on Photo Filter Bandwagon

Not to be outdone by Instagram, Twitter has added photo filters to its iOS app. Twitter version 5.2 brings eight different filters, the ability to crop and scale images, and an easy to use grid view for finding the best looking filters for your photos.

Twitter 5.2 iOS

Earlier this month, Instagram decided to disable the ability to properly display images on Twitter. Twitter users are now forced to visit Instagram’s website to correctly view images posted via the Instagram app. Instagram’s chief executive, Kevin Systrom said in an interview: “We’ve decided that right now, what makes sense, is to direct our users to the Instagram website".
