Apple has released iOS 9.1 with over 150 new emoji characters, Live Photo improvements and more. The update arrived after the Pangu Team released version 1.1.0 of their jailbreak tool. It is unknown if iOS 9.1 breaks Pangu 9, but it is likely, and users with jailbroken devices should avoid updating.

Update: Apple's security page for iOS 9.1 does include exploits used by the Pangu Team for their iOS 9 jailbreak tool. This means that iOS 9.1 will break the latest jailbreak and should be avoided if you want to keep your device jailbroken.

Pangu today has released version 1.1.0 of its iOS 9 jailbreak tool. The update improves the success rate and reliability for 64 bit devices, according to the official changelog. Users with an iPhone 5s or later who were experiencing trouble installing the iOS 9 jailbreak tool can try again with v.1.1.0. The upated jailbreak is now available for Windows at en.pangu.io or through Cydia for users with version 1.0 already installed.

Apple removes 256 apps found to be collecting personal data

Only a few weeks after the malware known as XcodeGhost was found to be affecting apps on the App Store, Apple has removed another 256 apps found to be collecting personal user information. The analytics service, SourceDNA, has discovered that hundreds of apps in the App Store were using an advertising SDK from China to collect personal data, such as Apple ID email addresses and other private information used to track users. It is estimated that around one million people have downloaded the apps.

Last week was a relatively flat week for Apple stock (NASDAQ: AAPL), as the share price fluctuated between $112.75 and $109.56, ultimately closing the week at $111.04 after opening on Monday at $112.73. The volume was low as well, reaching a high of 44.3 million during trading on Wednesday. Trading could pick up this week as the FY 15 fourth quarter results call approaches (Tuesday, Oct. 27th 5 p.m. ET).

Apple seeded the 5th iOS 9.1 beta on Monday to both registered developers and the public. There is a second version of it specifically for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. iOS 9.1 is focused mostly on new features and compatibility with the new fourth generation Apple TV and the iPad Pro, which comes with a Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil. It also includes Unicode 8, which adds several new emoji, including a middle finger, a unicorn head and a burrito among others.
