iPhone v1.1.1 Firmware Update to Bring Video Out

There was some information drifting around last week which suggested that Apple had muffed and mentioned the existence of video out cables with an iPod connector at one end which were iPhone compatible. At the time, it wasn't all that exciting. After all, just because a particular cable is compatible with the iPhone from a hardware perspective doesn't mean that in the long run it is actually of any use.

In any event, it does seem that such a cable will be of use. We're not sure just how exciting this development is either, but it's definitely worth a mention. Okay, it's exciting enough - on with it.

UK Demo Units Run 1.1.1 iPhone Firmware, Update Imminent

According to iPhoneAtlas, a member of Cnet's family of sites, reported today that the iPhone demo units used at Apple's press conference/media event held today at the Regent Street Apple store in London were updated with the yet-to-be-released version 1.1.1 firmware. iPhone owners have been eagerly awaiting the new firmware version for many weeks.

As we all know, there's never a shortage of rumors spewing out of the "iPhone 2" rumor mill. Usually, they're worth little more than ignoring. Occasionally, however, a report or rumor comes along that's worth talking about. The latest on iPhone 2 seems to be worth a note.

UK iPhone Announced on O2, no 3G

The iPhone was announced in the UK today an Apple press conference held in London at the Regent St. Apple store. Though there was a great deal of speculation as to what iPhone would be announced, the reality is that folks in the UK are getting the same version of the iPhone that was released earlier this year in the United States.

The most anticipated news was of course whether the UK folks would be getting their hands on v2 of the iPhone - one with 3G capabilities. The answer, as mentioned above, is no. As many expected, due to limitations caused by high battery usage of 3G chips, Apple can't yet justify a 3G version of the iPhone at this time. Apple Releases iTunes 7.4.2, Breaks Free Ringtones Again

Apple released iTunes 7.4.2 earlier today, officially geared towards addressing an "issue with creating ringtones using iTunes Plus song purchases and includes bug fixes to improve stability and performance," according to Apple's release notes. For many users, however, the update seems to have made matters worse.
