How do I uninstall an iPhone application using Cydia?

iPhone users new to jailbreaking may have noticed that removing applications installed through Cydia is a different procedure than uninstalling apps from Apple's AppStore. Usually, when holding your finger down on an icon it starts to wiggle and a black "x" appears in the upper left hand corner of the icon.

Jailbreak apps installed with Cydia do not show this black "x" and must be uninstalled using the Cydia package manager.

iPhone VoIP Calls: Not Just on Wi-Fi Anymore

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls using applications such as Truphone and Fring are nothing new to the iPhone. VoIP calls using 3G, or EDGE/GPRS for that matter, have been available for three months now, and it's the jailbreak app VoIPover3G that makes them possible.

The app works by using a MobileSubstrate library that tricks applications into behaving as if they are on a Wi-Fi connection when they are actually on a cellular data connection. Fring and Truphone are tricked by default when VoIPover3G is installed using the Cydia package manager.

iPhone Copy and Paste App Clippy Now Available

One of the top complaints about the iPhone is the lack of cut and paste functionality. Now those who have jailbroken their devices can fix this problem with a new app called Clippy. Any user-editable text can be selected and copied to a clipboard, then pasted into another application.

This beta version by Ryan Petrich is easily accessible using the number keyboard. After pressing the "123" button simply hit the "copy" button. Proceed to select the text you wish to copy with the magnifying glass (selected text will be highlighted). Hit "copy" again to copy the text to the clipboard. Move to the application you'd like to paste the text into and click "paste". It's that simple.
