How to Downgrade iPhone iOS 5 Firmware to 4.3.3

Are you missing some key jailbreak tweaks now that you've updated your iPhone 4 or 3GS to iOS 5 firmware? Already tired of dealing with all of the shortcomings in iOS 5 notification center? Luckily if you have saved your SHSH blobs you can easily downgrade and return your iPhone to a jailbroken state (and reinstall LockInfo!)

SHSH blobs saved to Cydia

In order to downgrade you must have saved SHSH blobs. Pictured above are how saved SHSH files appear for each firmware version in Cydia, when they are saved to Saurik's server. Follow these steps to downgrade to earlier firmware, including iOS 4.3.3 for an untethered jailbreak with JailbreakMe.

5 Biggest iOS 5 Notification Center Failures

Let me start by saying that none of the items mentioned in this list are new discoveries. All of the gripes below could have been noted months ago, after Apple first introduced iOS 5. If not then, it could have been revealed by reading the numerous descriptions of Notification Center from IOS developers and other users that installed one of iOS 5's many beta versions. Instead, I plodded along ignorantly, happily enjoying the world of jailbroken notification handling (via programs such as LockInfo and Intelliscreen), assuming that when Apple released iOS 5, I'd have all the intuitive, useful goodness I'd been enjoying for so long built right in. Boy, was I wrong.

Apple seems to have taken a good idea and executed it surprisingly poorly. Concepts which seem as though they'd be simple common sense are simply ignored. Instead of feeling complete, the Notification Center implementation seems rushed, with obvious needs overlooked.

While there are other complaints, here are what I consider to be the 5 biggest oversights with the new iOS 5 Notification Center.

How do I get my iPhone to send messages using iMessage?

This process is automatic, given that you've set up iMessage.

For more information on how to set up iMessage, view our FAQ entitled "How do I setup iMessage?"

Once you have iMessage setup, all you have to do is send a message (whether text, picture, etc) as you normally would. If the recipient of the message you are sending has also setup iMessage on their end, the iPhone will use iMessage. If the recipient does not have iMessage setup, it will use traditional methods.

How do I setup iMessage?

Setting up iMessage on Apple's new iOS 5 couldn't be easier.

It's this simple:

1) Tap on the Settings app from your home screen.
2) Choose Messages.
3) Set iMessage to ON and sign in with your Apple ID, choosing the phone number and email address(es) at which you'd like to receive iMessages.

That's it.

Where Can You Buy the iPhone 4S?

Here's a list of retail stores that will be selling the iPhone 4S on October 14. This is not a complete list, just some suggestions on other places you can go if you don't have an Apple Store near you. All Apple locations will be opening at 8 am local time on Friday, October 14, and will be offering a free Personal Setup service.

iPhone 4S Pre-Order

AT&T, Verizon and Sprint stores will also be carrying the iPhone 4S, but are not a great option. If you have to buy it directly from your carrier I would call ahead to make sure they plan to have a lot in stock.

The iPhone 4S is $199.99 for the 16GB model, $299.99 for the 32GB model and $399.99 for the 64GB model. All prices require a new or upgraded contract.
