Looking for a way to sync your clocks and watch the ball drop in Times Square? Most people will just watch television, but now you can bring the whole experience to a new level with the Times Square Official New Year's Eve Ball App 2011. This free download is packed with features for your iPhone.

Not only is there a commercial-free streaming webcast of the event included, a countdown clock is synced to the ball and displayed in your local time zone. Assuming you're not in Times Square, you can measure how many miles away you are from the center of New York City's biggest NYE party.

Recently revealed patents point to Apple developing a native location reporting app that would make it possible to broadcast your iPhone location to friends and see who's nearby. The patent, filed in June 2009, is titled "Push-Based Location Update" and is credited to four Apple engineers.

The Friend Locator app would track users based on their iTunes account login, and feature voluntary privacy controls such as blocking individual users from seeing your location. Those who have their iPhone set to push location updates will be listed along with their location and the distance, or as a push pin on a map.

Apple has updated the Remote app for iOS devices to version 2.1. Now this iPhone remote control works with AirPlay and Internet radio stations to enhance your home entertainment system. Remote can be used from anywhere on your Wi-Fi network to control video and TV or movie rentals from iTunes streaming to your Apple TV with AirPlay.

Playlists, songs and albums can be chosen from your iTunes library without sitting in front of your computer. Typing is easy using the iPhone on-screen keyboard, which saves time instead of clicking individual letters on the Apple TV screen.

Pretty soon, PlayStation devotees around the world will be able to explore all things PlayStation using Sony's official iOS application. Running on iOS 4 or later, the app has already been released in selected European countries. The app will roll out to other countries soon.

Launched so far in France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, and the UK, Sony's PlayStation app makes it possible to access the PlayStation Network. Users can see their trophies and whether or not their gaming friends are online.

Running out of space on your iPhone? Now you can store and play music using the mSpot Music app for free. Two GB of space in the cloud stores all of your songs, album art and track titles and streams them to your iPhone over 3G or Wi-Fi. Space can be extended to 40 GB with a $3.99 monthly fee.

Not only can you stream your music from anywhere with mSpot Music, you can also download specific songs to the iPhone to play when you're not connected to data services (like airplane mode). The mSpot cloud compresses your music, so although quality may be reduced, more songs can be saved on the remote drive.
