How can set the number of rings on my iPhone before voicemail picks up?

You can set the iPhone to wait longer or shorter than the default 20 seconds before it goes to voicemail when receiving an incoming call. This will result in a different number of rings before the voice messaging system picks up the line and plays your outgoing message. To change the amount of time the iPhone will ring follow these steps:

1. Open the phone app and dial *#61# on the Keypad. Press the Call button.

2. Locate this text on the screen: "Setting Interrogation Succeeded, Voice Call Forwarding, When Unanswered, Forwards to +" and record the 11-digit number after the + symbol.

3. Touch the Dismiss button. Now enter this code on the Keypad: *61*+ followed by the 11-digit Forwards to number recorded in step 2, followed by *11 and *ringtime#. Ringtime is the number of seconds you want your iPhone to ring before voicemail picks up. Your finished code should look something like this:

*61*+18555513466*11*30#

In the example above the ring time is set to 30 seconds. Press the Call button.

4. You should receive the message: Setting Activation Succeeded. Press Dismiss and next time you receive a call it will ring for the new amount of time before going to voicemail.

Worked great on my iPhone 5 with TMobile service in the US. Users might benefit from a little tip to delete the *#61# characters after acquiring the "forward to" number (after they touch the dismiss button in step 3), so they have a clear screen when they enter the next set of numbers. Thanks for the help!

I tried this -with and without the + and it came up with the same error message, and now when I phone my iphone 4s (ios7 updated) from my landline it's engaged all the time. How would anyone think that 2rings is sufficient before going to voicemail, and why do they make it so difficult to change the most basic options? I don't think I'll be buying another. Come back Nokia, all is forgiven....

This is not an iPhone setting. this is a international phone thing. The number you ring has nothing to do with iPhone.

press and hold the 0 to get the plus sign

It worked but now my voicemail is messed up. How do I fix this ??? Help. Service carrier bell.

I phone 5 worked first time, nice one thank you

When I tried this on my i4 - I got a three digit code of 121 instead of an 11 digit code. Needless to say it would not work.Does anyone know how I can change this and get the proper code. The phone settings were in place from a previous owner.

I get 121 as well, which is the voicemail number. I struggle to get to the phone even if its in my pocket in the few seconds it rings. It is a big omission by Apple.

I have this problem too, did you resolve it?

Brilliant! Thanks so much. Just remember to remove the + like some others have said and it works fine.

now it doesn't let people leave voice mails?!?!?!? How do I fix that?

Thanks, I was not sure it would work but it did. I too left out the + as it is not part of our international dialling, and BTW in my case the code was 13 digits (International code & phone no with an inserted 5 (for mail box)). And of course it took two tries because I did not read your instructions properly first time... my bad!

I too was fed up with not getting a chance to answer phone as went to voicemail so quickly, thus maybe losing business, as, some people dont like leaving voicemails!!
Done what instruction said and hey.....my phone now rings for 40 seconds what i set it to before cutting to voicemail, worked first time for me!!!!!!!

I just tried your method and thank you it worked like a charm (eliminating the + and or 0!)

tried the instructions and my phone acts like it's dialing and no instructions come up, just time passes as if was waiting for someone to pick up

Typed in *#61# and got the tape telling me my call could not be completed as dialed. This is so aggravating!

Worked perfectly for me. Many thanks.

Tried the one about entering the numbers as a new contact (so you can get the +) and that worked a treat!

The instruction is simple and clear. It works! Great!
The only complain I got is that they don't it ring for 40 seconds which I definitely need it.

TOTALLY FRUSTRATED... MY + SHOWS UP AS A 0 ON MY VERSION OF IPHONE. TRIED THE SUGGESTION OF SETTING UP THE STRING OF NUMBERS WITH THE +AS NEW CONTACT AND IT WORKED!!! NOW i DON'T HAVE TO RUN LIKE A CRAZY PERSON TO ANSWER MY PHONE.

Worked the first time. I just set it for 25 seconds. Perfect!

You have to push and hold the 0 for the plus sign.

Tried this. At first attempt phone went direct to voicemail. Whilst rekeying for a second attempt I realised that the line of code *#61# was still visible. i used the back symbol to delete these and restarted, entering initially #61# without the * at the beginning. Worked a treat!

IPhone 4 - i OS 7.1

Finally got it after dozens of attempts. This shouldn't have to be this difficult!

Phone wont allow me to dismiss. It keeps it enabled?

Thank you!!! After years of frustration finally it is fixed. I set it to 90 seconds so I will never have to run or up end my bag and no longer will have useless voicemail messages. Worked the first time!

Hi,
I followed your instructions and it worked perfectly. I am concerned though. As soon as I did this the 'call forward' symbol appeared on my phone and I'm worried that I am being charged an extra amount per phone call. I would like to reverse what I've done but don't know how. Can you help me with this?
Sam

Success on first try. Doubled number of rings with setting at 30.
Thanks for easy to follow baby step directions.

Wonderful, works perfectly! Thanks so much :)
