Now all it takes to charge an iPhone is a few pieces of wood and the BioLite CampStove. This stove can boil a liter of water in under five minutes, and while the fire is burning electricity is generated to power the built-in USB port. Toss twigs, pine cones or any other biomass into the BioLite and flames will do the rest.

The stove works by converting heat from the fire into electricity, 2W continuously @5V with a peak of 4W @5V. This will charge any device at about the same clip as a notebook computer USB port. Using the BioLite makes it unnecessary to bring fuel canisters, phone chargers, solar panels and the like.

Believe it or not, there's a new project in town that intends to put your iPhone on the front lines of personal defense. The Yellow Jacket is designed as the first iPhone case to pack a 650K volt stun gun on board. With all of that extra juice, the case also provides an extra 20 hours of battery life for your mobile device.

Safety features are built in to ensure you don't get zapped while playing Angry Birds, but if you need to incapacitate an attacker, firing up the stun gun takes less than a second. Flip a safety switch and turn down the cap to expose the electrodes at the top of the case. Pressing the activation button will send 650K volts coursing through anyone unlucky enough to be touching the contacts.

This app will include highlights, schedules for TV and online programming, live event results, columns and features a Primetime Companion designed to be used while watching the games on TV. The second app, NBC Olympics Live Extra, will stream live events for cable, satellite and telco TV customers totaling over 3,500 hours of sporting competition.

This simple alternative to silence the device ringer or headphone volume is a tweak in Cydia called TapVolumeToMute. After the tweak is installed, there are two steps to mute the iPhone or bring the volume back to its previous level.

Photos of a scale model of the next generation iPhone have leaked to Gotta Be Mobile from a source within Apple's supply chain. Assuming these images are authentic, the engineering sample confirms several parts leaks and previous reports of a larger form factor.

According to the engineering sample, which is typically used to mock up a product when fine tuning manufacturing processes, the iPhone 5 will be longer than its predecessor to accommodate a larger 16:9 display. Other aspects of the new design are also apparent in the metal model, such as camera placement similar to the iPhone 4S.
