There are several new Apple products to look forward to in the new year. Apple has teased fans of its technology with three upcoming devices that are slated for arrival in stores any day now. While an updated iPhone lineup is sure to be released in the fall, here are the top three Apple products set to launch during the first half of 2018.
Apple fans looking to pick up a HomePod during the holiday season will have to wait a bit longer. While the device was originally slated for a December launch, Apple has told TechCrunch it needs more time to get the production process just right. The HomePod will start shipping in early 2018.
Developers have been digging up a lot of unverified details about the rumored iPhone 8 in the recently released HomePod firmware. On Monday, new information regarding the device's possible 4K capabilities was uncovered, and today, iOS developer Steven Troughton-Smith dug-up some interesting code that provides insight into Apple's new virtual Home button.
Apple is expected to ditch the physical Home button found on all current iPhone models in favor of a digital button on the iPhone 8. The new Home button will reside at the bottom of the edge-to-edge OLED display of the next-generation model.
Apple released the HomePod firmware and developers have wasted no time sifting through the code. According to reports, the device is known as "AudioAccessory1,1" and features an app called SoundBoard to control its internal hardware components. For the time being, it appears as though the HomePod will not support third-party apps.
UPDATE: The Apple HomePod launches on February 9, 2018. Apple will accept pre-orders starting on Friday, January 26.
Apple has not specified a release day or window for pre-orders, however the device is expected to launch in time for the holiday shopping season.
