Larger iPhone 6 Confirmed in Multiple Leaks

Rumors of two larger iPhone models launching later this year have been circulating for months. As mass production begins, photos of parts are starting to leak on Chinese websites such as Weibo. Two purportedly independent leaks seem to confirm a 4.7-inch diagonal iPhone 6 in the works. The white bezel below, with proper home button and earpiece cutouts, shows a larger size than the current model iPhone in black.

Additionally, these iPhone 6 parts point to displays with the same aspect ratio as the existing iPhone 5 and 5s. Whether or not the new display carries increased resolution remains to be seen, however the matching aspect ratio makes sense from an app development point of view. Changes to the display can require significant work for developers to accommodate a new device.

Possible iPhone 6 Cases Surface, Suggesting Two Different Size Units

As soon as the iPhone 5s hit the market the iPhone 6 rumor mill began churning, and claims of varying sizes, shapes, release dates and new functionality are now all over the web. At this point, the one rumor that has gathered the most steam is that it will be available in two different sizes. Pictures of a pair of alleged prototype iPhone 6 cases have emerged, and seem to lend credence to that rumor.

MobileFun recently received a picture of two supposed iPhone 6 prototype cases lying side by side. The source of the photo is not entirely clear, so, as usual, take it with with a grain of salt. Aside from the two different sizes, it appears that there is a cutout on the right side of each case (left side in the pictures). This supports KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo research note from earlier this week that suggested

Analyst Projects at least One of Two Larger iPhone 6 Models Will be Released in August/September

At this point nearly all of the daily iPhone 6 rumors point to the phone's next incarnation having a larger display. The size of the new display is still up for debate, with estimates ranging from 4.7 to 5.5 inches, as compared to the four inch screen of the iPhone 5s and 5c. Many analysts suggest that Apple will release two different sizes. The latest projection, from UBS analyst Steve Milunovich, agrees that two different size models are likely, but may not be released at the same time.

According to Barron's, Milunovich gives Apple shares a "Buy" rating and a price target of $625 (AAPL closed today at $539.19). His optimism is based on his checks of Apple's supply chain that suggest the iPhone 6 will ship in August or September

Leaked Images Claim to Show Off New iPhone 6 Design

A member of the Chinese forum WeiPhone has posted two purported images of an iPhone 6 digitizer. The pictures reveal that the next-generation Apple handset will feature a larger screen due to its lack of side bezels, however, it is unknown how the pictures were obtained and if the images are real.

As you can see above and below, the images seem to show how the iPhone 4s, iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 differ, but the cutout for the Home button on the purported iPhone 6 digitizer seems a little bit off. This could mean the images are fakes, or they were just taken of an early prototype for the next-generation iPhone.

Imagination Technologies Unveils 192 Core GPU, Possibly Destined for Next Generation iPhones and iPads

This week, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, Imagination Technologies unveiled its new PowerVR GX6650, a 192-core GPU (graphics processing unit), which the company considers its "shining star" of PowerVR graphics processors. Since Imagination supplies the graphics processors for Apple's custom A-series chips, this new GPU could very well be included in the next generation iPhone (iPhone 6) and iPad.
