iMessage Security Flaw Allows Texts to Lost, Wiped iPhones

You might think that wiping your lost or stolen iOS device would prevent another party from receiving messages via iMessage on the wiped device. As it turns out, Apple will be doing some work to issue a security update in future iterations of iMessage.

iMessage security threat

Users have discovered through an unpleasant trial and error process that the only way to stop text messages coming in via the iMessage service is to change your Apple ID. Wiping the lost iPhone and deactivating the phone number does nothing to stop a thief from receiving and reading your iMessages. These texts will be delivered to your old iPhone as well as the new one you just purchased to replace the lost device.

Angry Birds Celebrates 2 Years With New iOS Update

Angry Birds fans and newcomers alike can now enjoy version 2.0 of the game on any Apple device running iOS 3.0 or later. Rovio has launched the latest update to the ever-popular game to celebrate its 2nd birthday. Angry Birds has been the number one paid seller in the App Store all over the world, and continues to bring new levels into play.

Angry Birds 2.0

Angry Birds 2.0 adds 15 entirely new levels with a birthday cake theme to celebrate the anniversary, bringing the total number of levels available to a whopping 300. Not only this, but all episodes are unlocked in the new Angry Birds, so you can skip ahead and start with the first level on any episode at any time regardless of your progress.

Apple Releases iOS 5.1 Beta 2 to Developers

Apple has planted fake device listings like "iPad10,1" and "AppleTV8,3" in configuration files to throw off developers looking for future iOS devices in their new iOS 5.1 beta 2. Mark Gurman (via MacRumors) discovered that the devices listed in the file, USBDeviceConfiguration.plist, went from around two dozen to over 100 items since the last release.

iOS

Besides the amusing fake files, iOS 5.1 beta 2 hasn't revealed anything too interesting. There are a few new bug fixes and the ability to remove images from the iCloud Photo Stream. The previous iOS 5.1 beta featured a possible battery drain fix, and an inactive code in the Camera app that allows panoramic photos.

New Zombie App 'Infected' Brings a Fun Twist to the Tower Defense Genre

After a long wait for the disappointing Last Stand 3, I've been desperately trying to find a fun and addictive new free zombie game. I originally dismissed Zombie Lane as a lame Facebook app that forces you to spend money to play, but it has grown on me over the last week (especially after the Christmas update which added new missions and stuff to buy). The only problem is Zombie Lane is not the best time passer. It's a great game to have on your phone for random bits of procrastination, but having to wait five minutes to perform one task can get kind of tedious.

Free

Infected is more of the fast paced kind of game I've been looking for. It's a fun twist on the tower defense genre where you use police officers as torrents to defend citizens from zombies. The app can even access your Facebook friends turning them into the helpless victims. Like any tower defense game you can upgrade your torrents, buy better armed police agents, and use random weapons to bomb zombie hordes. The game has a good mix of free upgrades and features an online multi-player mode.
