When iOS 11 launches later this year, iPhone owners can enjoy more options when it comes to near-field communication (NFC). NFC is already used on the iPhone for contactless payment with Apple Pay. Apple has opened up the system to developers with the release of Core NFC, which will allow apps to detect and read NFC tags.

iOS 11 has greatly improved the Notes app with the addition of lines and grids, the ability to insert tables, new swipe options and the ability to scan documents, among others. The scanning feature has been long awaited and should replace third-party scanner apps in the near future. It is simple to use and integrates the scans right into your notes. While lens filters for the iPhone's Camera app have been around for several iOS generations now, iOS 11 not only changes the available filters, but changes the user interface as well. Apple touts them in its iOS 11 preview:
"New professional-quality filters take the camera on iPhone to another level. Portrait photos are more expressive. Skin tones more natural. There are even filters for applying classic looks to your portraiture photography."

Among the many new features introduced to iOS is the ability to record your iPhone or iPad's screen, surely a welcome addition for gamers who want to share strategies (or boast of their accomplishments) and for iOS tutorial writers, including yours truly. While you could always do this using QuickTime on a Mac, the Screen Recording feature makes it a lot less complicated. Here's a brief example:
