Add the Camera Shortcut to Your Lock Screen Without Upgrading to iOS 5.1 [iPhone Tweaks]

Jailbreakers who feel like they're missing out on the new iOS 5.1 camera icon can now add their own with a new jailbreak tweak. Camera Grabber for iOS 5 adds the camera shortcut to your iPhone's Lock Screen without having to upgrade to iOS 5.1. This eliminates the need to double tap the Home button to quickly access your camera.

If you do not want the new icon but would like an easier way to access your camera, you can always install the free tweak known as CamFast. This tweak allows you to use Activator actions like "Double Tap" to achieve the same result as using the camera shortcut.

Yelp Gets Improved Siri Integration on iPhone

Thanks to iOS 5.1 the relationship between Siri and Yelp just got a little bit closer. The iPhone 4S has used Yelp from the beginning to provide answers to all of your questions surrounding local businesses, especially restaurants and bars. The latest firmware update provides more interaction from the results that Siri pulls up from Yelp.

Yelp gets more Siri integration

Now with the Yelp iPhone app installed, tapping a business listed in Siri's search results will bring you directly to the business in Yelp. This provides full access to all of the pertinent information you may need before heading over to that address, such as hours of operation, review details, and photos.

Activate Your iPhone's Camera from the Lock Screen with New Jailbreak Tweak

UPDATE: The tweak is now available in the BigBoss repo under CamFast.

iOS 5.1 adds a camera shortcut to your iPhone's Lock Screen. This is a great tool for non-jailbroken devices, but iPhone 4S owners who had to avoid 5.1 to keep their jailbreak are still stuck with the old Home Button option.

iPhone Camera Tweak

Just like the new icon, a new jailbreak tweak called FastCam allows jailbreak users easy access to their iPhone's camera from the Lock Screen. The tweak works with Activator actions like "Double Tap" from anywhere on your phone. Once installed, just choose the Activator option you would like to use, and you be able to quickly access your camera from any screen on your phone. FastCam can be slightly faster than the iOS 5.1 shortcut since you don't have to swipe up from the icon.

Apple iOS 5.1 Delivers More Than Just Bug Fixes

Apple has launched the latest version of its mobile operating system, iOS 5.1. So what can iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users expect from the update? Although it may not be a huge step, there are many additions and improvements to the firmware, some of which Apple did not officially announce before the release.

iOS 5.1 update iTunes new features

As usual, those iPhone owners running a jailbroken device should avoid the stock iOS 5.1 update until further notice. One of the previously heralded changes in iOS 5.1 is the addition of Japanese support for the Siri personal assistant. So what else has Apple included in iOS 5.1?

Dev-Team Announces Tethered Jailbreak For iOS 5.1

I'm not sure updating to iOS 5.1 is worth losing your untethered jailbreak, but non-A5 users can sacrifice their freedom if they want to. iPhone 4S users should avoid 5.1 if they want to keep their jailbreak. However, non-iPhone 4S owners can keep their devices jailbroken by downloading redsn0w 0.9.10b6. This version is a tethered 5.1 jailbreak for non-A5 devices.

iOS 5.1

A tethered jailbreak requires that your device is plugged into a computer whenever turned on. Untethered jailbreaks offer the freedom of not using a computer every time your device reboots. Most jailbreakers prefer untethered to tethered. Since iOS 5.1 doesn't offer anything worth losing your untethered jailbreak over I would suggest avoiding it entirely. However, if you are dead set on getting to 5.1 read on for the Dev Team's warning and instructions.
