New iOS Apps, Games and JB Tweaks of the Week: HealthKit Apps Finally Arrive on App Store

Apple has finally gotten HealthKit up and rolling after delaying its launch a little over a week due to a bug in iOS 8.0. The first HealthKit-enabled apps starting appearing on the App Store on Friday after Apple released iOS 8.0.2 to fix the issues plaguing the new health platform. One of the first HealthKit-compatible apps spotted in the wild was FitPort. The app promises to deliver a "simple dashboard for your daily fitness stats" by recording steps, cycling distance, active and dietary calories, plus more to Apple's Health app. FitPort is available now for $1.99.

Other HealthKit friendly apps include:

- WebMD (Free) Connect Healthy Target to the Apple Health app to receive actionable insights on your health data.
- Yummly (Free) - Recipe app. Allows you to send nutrition information to the Health app.
- Carrot Fit ($2.99) Allows you to sync your weight and workout data with the Health app.
- MyFitnessPal (Free)

• Add your meal summaries to HealthKit – You can now share meal data with HealthKit-connected apps every time you add food to your diary.
• Sync your weight with HealthKit – If you have an app that records your weight in HealthKit, we can automatically sync that with your MyFitnessPal account. Likewise, if you track your weight in MyFitnessPal we’ll keep your HealthKit data updated.
• Add exercises from other HealthKit apps to your diary – When you exercise with an app that saves workout data to HealthKit, we can adjust your daily calorie goal for you.

New iOS Apps, Games and JB Tweaks of the Week: Dragon Quest I, Spider-Man Unlimited and More

Not only did Apple announce two new iPhones and an Apple Watch this week, but it set a pre-order sales record and helped U2's first studio album in five years reach 2 million downloads on iTunes. While this is all good news for Apple fans it also means everything else came to a crawl including App Store releases while developers wait for the release of iOS 8 on September 17. It is also unknown if and when iOS 8 will be jailbroken so Cydia releases may also start to slow down too.

Dragon Quest I, Spider-Man Unlimited

Two quick notes before we get to this week's releases, accessory makers are already shipping iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus cases, and the MOGA Bluetooth Rebel MFi controller will support the 6 and 6 Plus. It will be available on September 17th and pre-orders are currently being accepted.

It was a big week for Rovio Entertainment who released Angry Birds Stella to the App Store on Thursday. The gaming studio also got the internet buzzing with its retro 80's trailer for Angry Birds Transformers. The Angry Birds / Transformers crossover will be available for mobile devices on October 15, 2014.

In non-Rovio news, Team Meat released more details about Super Meat Boy Forever, and Sony announced that Run SackBoy! Run!, a LittleBigPlanet endless runner, is coming to PS Vita and mobile devices later this year.

It was another slow week for App Store releases but there were a few noteworthy announcements made and trailers released this week. The biggest App Store news was the confirmation by the Pokémon Company that the the Pokémon Trading Card Game will be released to the iPad. This marks the first time a Nintendo-owned game will be ported to iOS.

Star Wars: Commander

Rovio finally announced an official release date to its Angry Birds spin-off Stella. The game will be available on September 4th. Nival announced its new RPG Etherlords will hit the App Store on the same day as Stella, and trailers for The Witcher Battle Arena and Mikey Boots were also released this week. New iOS Apps, Games and JB Tweaks of the Week: Call of Duty: Heroes Beta, WWE: SuperCard and More

It was a very slow week for the App Store again. This may be a trend until the next-generation iPhones and iPads are announced in September. However, there were a few big announcements made this week and a few games worth looking forward too. iOS users with an Australia or New Zealand App Store account can now download the Call of Duty: Heroes beta. The game is a free-to-play title that "lets you command an army of legendary heroes, elite soldiers, and an advanced arsenal of weaponry from the Call of Duty universe while building up and customizing a small outpost into an impenetrable base," according to the COD blog One of Swords.

Ironhide Games Studio announced a third Kingdom Rush game on its Facebook page. The game's tagline reads, "Every Adventure Has a Beginning". Ironhide said the game will feature "a new world, a new race, a new ancient evil" and it will be available in the fall.

The full version of Skylanders Trap Team will be released for tablets on October 5 2014. The game is now available for pre-order as a Starter Pack. The Starter Pack includes:
