The iPhone 5 Wasn't a Figment of Our Imaginations?

Those always reliable "industry sources" must be feeling lonely since the Apple rumor mill was shutdown back in October. Good thing for them the iPhone 4S wasn't interesting enough to hold our attention for longer than a month. So grab your supply of salt, and prepare yourself, because I predict a very long winter of new Apple rumors.

iPhone 5 Flat

The latest comes from the Business Insider, who refuses let a great rumor die. According to their unnamed source, the iPhone 5 was very real, but it was abandoned 3 months before the iPhone 4S was announced. Their tipster didn't say why the iPhone 5 was scrapped, but he did say Apple engineers thought "a new fully re-designed iPhone was going to be Apple's next big announcement." He also says he played with the prototype.

iPhone 4S Jailbreak: Don't Update to iOS 5.0.1

Those looking forward to an untethered jailbreak solution on the iPhone 4S should heed the words of developer pod2g, who warns that the iOS 5.0.1 update should be avoided for now. The reason is because security exploits found in iOS 5 have been closed by Apple in iOS 5.0.1. These security flaws, publicized by security expert Charlie Miller, will simplify the untethered jailbreak process on the iPhone 4S.

iPhone jailbreak do not update 5.0.1

If you're concerned about the security flaws, there are no reports of any malicious software actually using these exploits to do harm. Regardless, after the iPhone 4S is fully jailbroken developers will patch iOS 5 on their own with updates available through the Cydia jailbreak app store. The point is that if you plan to jailbreak your iPhone 4S untethered in the near future, the iOS 5.0.1 update should be avoided until further information is available.

Add the Android Keyboard Autocorrect Bar to Your iPhone [Jailbreak Free]

If you recently changed from Android to Apple, or you're just tired of the iPhone's own autocorrect, there is a simple way to add an Android-like autocorrect bar to your device. iPhone hacker Sonny Dickson discovered the feature hiding in iOS 5. It can be added to your iPhone 4, iPad and the iPhone 4S without a jailbreak.

Autocorrect

The iPhone automatically corrects unfinished or misspelled words, but its limited word choices can lead to errors while typing. The keyboard autocorrect offers a number of word choices allowing you to choose the word you want. It's a helpful tool that keeps texting errors to a minimum.

Here's how to enable the autocorrect bar on your device:

One More Reason Why Siri Won't Work With the iPhone 4

Apple has made it clear that Siri will not be available on any other iOS devices besides the iPhone 4S. iFixit believes this has to due with the device's unique proximity sensor. The iFixit team discovered whenever the screen of the iPhone 4S is activated the proximity sensor turns on.

Apple Store Version 2.0

The proximity sensor in other iPhone models is basically an infrared LED light that lets the device know when a user's face is near the screen. This allows the iPhone to switch off its touch interface when someone is making a call. iFixit believes the sensor inside the iPhone 4S switches on constantly so users can easily access Siri.
