iPhone 5 to Feature Apple Friend Locator?

Recently revealed patents point to Apple developing a native location reporting app that would make it possible to broadcast your iPhone location to friends and see who's nearby. The patent, filed in June 2009, is titled "Push-Based Location Update" and is credited to four Apple engineers.

The Friend Locator app would track users based on their iTunes account login, and feature voluntary privacy controls such as blocking individual users from seeing your location. Those who have their iPhone set to push location updates will be listed along with their location and the distance, or as a push pin on a map.

AirPlay and Radio Support Come to Remote iPhone App

Apple has updated the Remote app for iOS devices to version 2.1. Now this iPhone remote control works with AirPlay and Internet radio stations to enhance your home entertainment system. Remote can be used from anywhere on your Wi-Fi network to control video and TV or movie rentals from iTunes streaming to your Apple TV with AirPlay.

Playlists, songs and albums can be chosen from your iTunes library without sitting in front of your computer. Typing is easy using the iPhone on-screen keyboard, which saves time instead of clicking individual letters on the Apple TV screen.

Deep Holiday Discounts on iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS

The unprecedented low price of $147 for a new iPhone 4 is coming to a Sam's Club near you. Following the recent expired Radio Shack promotions, Sam's club will undercut record low prices on the iPhone 4 by an additional two bucks. The iPhone 3GS will go on sale for just $47.

Radio Shack sold out of the iPhone nationwide during its sale, and Best Buy offered the iPhone 3GS for free in a one-day only sale. Here's the catch, to qualify for these low prices at Sam's Club you must be a member and sign up for a two-year service agreement with AT&T Mobility.

iPhone 4: Untethered iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak Coming Soon

Dev-Team are in the final days of developing the next jailbreak solution upgrade for iPhone 4 users running iOS 4.2.1. Release could even happen this week if recent Twitter activity from team members is to be believed. Most recently MuscleNerd announced that "it’ll be here by Xmas (not because we’re sitting waiting for Xmas, but because it’s achievable deadline)" when asked about an untethered jailbreak via Twitter.

Although he has since removed the post, an earlier message from comex pointed to a release before the Christmas holiday. When asked "I want a 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak for christmas :P" by another Twitter user, comex replied, "you’ll get it."

iPhone 5 Could Feature Free GPS Navigation

More evidence has surfaced that Apple is working on navigation software for the next-generation iPhone. The company recently acquired online mapping company Poly9. This is not the first tech company specializing in mapping to be picked up by Apple.

Placebase, a mapping services company was also bought by Apple in 2009. Speculation is rampant that Apple may integrate both companies' technology in a new mapping and/or navigation app for the iPhone 5. Google maps are currently featured in iOS products, but the relationship between Google and Apple has been rocky lately. Google has also launched its own competing free GPS navigation app for Android platforms.
