iOS App of the Week: MLB.com At Bat

Most of the major league sports apps are confusing messes bogged down with too much useless content and a heavy focus on social media, but MLB is working hard to deliver baseball fans a great experience by taking advantage of the iPhone's many features. The MLB not only outfitted twenty major ballparks with iBeacons this year, but it has also partnered with Apple to bring live games to users who utilize the iOS 7 CarPlay feature. And now the MLB is offering additional content and interactive features using iBeacon technology at this year's 2014 All-Star Game in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

MLB.com At Bat

The MLB.com At Bat app has been updated All-Star Week 2014 support, and MLB.TV Premium subscribers will be able to live stream the 85th All-Star Game on July 15. Major League Baseball also plans to add more iBeacons to additional ballparks throughout the year.

iOS App of the Week: Denny's Atari Remix

Denny's Atari Remix is one of the of the oddest apps to hit the App Store in recent memory. At first I thought it was just a joke like WhatsApplebee's, but it is an actual game created by the restaurant chain Denny's. That's right, Denny's has teamed up with Atari to launch a collection of "diner-themed video games" for iOS devices.

Denny's Atari Remix

Denny's Atari Remix features three Atari classics re-imagined as breakfast. Hashteroids is Denny's spin on Asteroids where you control a ketchup bottle rocket while trying to blast "clumps of golden-brown potatoes before they destroy you". Centipup is based on the original Centipede, and Take-Out is like Breakout but with eggs and bacon instead of bricks. The app also features a button to open Denny's main app in the rare chance that you already have it installed on your device.

iOS App of the Week: TodayTix - Find Discount Broadway Tickets

TodayTix is a service that provides users with access to last minute discounted tickets to Broadway and Off-Broadway shows directly from their mobile device. The app allows users to easily find both full priced and discounted tickets without dealing with any lines or the box office. The best part is that TodayTix Concierge agents hand deliver all tickets in front of the theater before the show.

TodayTix

This is a great app for tourists or even New Yorkers who do not know how to score discounted seats for popular Broadway shows such as Wicked, Kinky Boots and so on. It also ensures you will buy authentic tickets and not be ripped off by counterfeiters.

iOS App of the Week: (R)evolve

Created in just 48 hours, (R)evolve proves that sometimes the most simple and free iOS games can be the most addicting. The new game from the developers behind the hit PC title Worms, involves an upstart alien planet trying to grow life. Players must protect the evolving plants and creatures by spinning them away from waves of deadly meteorites bombarding their planet.

Revolve

The goal and controls of (R)evolve are simple, just use your thumbs to spin the planet left or right so the meteorites don't crush its inhabitants. After each wave the citizens of the planet will evolve and start creating defenses, such as canons, to save themselves from being destroyed. (R)evolve is one of those simple but frustrating games, like Flappy Bird, that will keep you coming back for more and more.

iOS App of the Week: Battleheart Legacy

Only released a few days ago, Mika Mobile's follow-up to the popular Battleheart RPG for iOS devices is already receiving positive reviews from both fans and critics. Battleheart Legacy is a 3D retweak of its predecessor that adds a lot more depth to the original concept. The game now allows players to use experience points to build multifaceted characters by learning a variety of skills instead of just following one skill tree. The game also features multiple dialog options which gives it a choose your own adventure feel and allows for players to discover more quests or items depending on their choices.

Battleheart Legacy

Battleheart Legacy is also being praised for its new 3D graphics that stay true to the cartoonish look of the original game, its fast load times and redesigned battle system. The game has been called one of the best games of the year by Touch Arcade, and it has been compared to both The Legend of Zelda and Skyrim. Other improvements include better iCloud support, over 150 unique skills to learn, 12 classes of heroes, over 200 unique pieces of equipment and Game Center support.
