How to Fix iBooks Error After iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak

UPDATE: iPhone developer pod2g blogged that an upcoming Corona update will fix "iBooks and other softwares having sandbox issues." We will let you know when it's released.

When jailbreaking iOS there are sometimes caveats and unintended consequences, although normally for enthusiasts the advantages of running new software take precedence. iBooks fans might have found that after liberating their device with the latest redsn0w untethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak that iBooks ceases to work.

iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak iBooks error

Now there's a package available in Cydia that should fix the problem. Some users have reported no luck with the fix, but our team was able to fix iBooks using the procedure below. As always, jailbreaking and installing non-Apple packages is performed on your iPhone at your own risk! Here are instructions to fix iBooks after jailbreaking.

1. Make sure you've jailbroken iOS 5.0.1 untethered with redsn0w or Corona
2. Open Cydia and navigate to Manage -> Sources
3. Tap the Edit button then tap the Add button
4. Enter the repository address repo.insanelyi.com and touch Add Source

i have gone through http://cydia.xsellize.com/ but i can't find the procedure to delete the iBooks from my iphone 4 which is jailbroken ... could you help out in this...

Just run the xsellize ibooks fix. Then hold down the ibooks app and it will now have a red X to delete the app. Then follow the rest of the instructions. It worked fine for me and ibooks is now working again.

how did you run the xsellize ibooks fix?where is it?i have tried all of the above..now the x mark doesn't come out, how will i delete the ibooks and reinstall it again?thanks!

This fix worked fine for me and iBooks is fully operational. Great stuff

The only way I was able to fix this was to download the iBooks Fix for iOS 5 from the xsellize repo. That didn't fix iBooks either, but at least after I uninstalled it, it fixed what the iBooks Fix 2 tweak did, and I was able to get rid of that undelete-able iBooks native app that the tweak made.

+1

exact same thing happened to me!but still the ibooks is undeletable!how did you fix it??thanks!

After installing this fix on my iphone4, several of my apps (including ibooks and cydia) now display shrunk down to a quarter of the screen size and I can't figure out the correct places to touch the screen for things to happen.

Hey i just find out how to get ibooks to work on iphone4 5.0.1 unthetered with redsnow
very simple : get rid off the original ibook.app (you dont need the original ibooks.app)
install iBooks Fix for iOS5 from Xsellize , install or use your existing sbsettings from cydia and run Fix User Dir Permissions, respring und you have working iBooks again!

yep,

just as you say, thanks a lot. Delete ibooks app (original) install from xsellize, fix permissions, sync books with itunes, and thats all.

Really works!!

"install or use your existing sbsettings from cydia and run Fix User Dir Permissions"

Can you please tell me how to do that ? I am on an ipod touch 4th gen and can't get the Xsellize version to work, please help me.

assuming you have installed SBSETTINGS, this is how you have to do it.

01. tap on the sbsettings app.

02.scroll down to 'system wide options'.

03. click system options.

04. tap on 'fix user dir permissions'.

05. reset iDevice.

done.

i was planning to unJB cause i tried all ibooks fixes but wasn't lucky. went through all the posts and this one really did it! thanks a bunch for sharing!

wait, i think i talked too soon. ibooks is now working fine for me, in terms of opening it (i mean the configuration error no longer appears), but, when i try to install a bookmark (X Books), following lines appear on the bottom...

*Error: Can't find the icon to use!*
*iBooks was not installed......*

i tried several books but none of them appears on the list in iBooks app.

any suggestions?

I needed to reboot.
A respring didn't work. It took me a few tries to figure this out.

Definite fix!!! Thanks for the tip. You just have to be sure to have sbsettings on your ipod touch 4g and xsellize source on your cydia before doing the deed. iBooks works like a charm!!!

i'm getting confused reading all the comments..please tell me how did you fix it?i have tried respring and rebooting my itouch 4G but still the ibook didn't work?i have the SB settings already and also the Xsellize repo on my cydia..

Thank you so much guys im currently jailbroken on ios 5.0.1 and i was going to delete cydia but when this worked i kept my jb sooo thx alooot :p

hey Bob Bhatnagar thanks for sharing this wonderful method with us
this thing surely works properly provided u reboot ur ipod after installing the fix :-) just try i m sure it will work :-)

I installed the ibooksfix2 on my iPad 1 5.0.1 untethered then i did fix user dir permissions (in sbsettings) opened ibooks, iPad will respring. Made sure my ibooks app was closed and then reopened it and ibooks works perfectly!

It works like a charm. I instaled both ibooks fix and ibooks fix2. After that reboot with holding both power and home button until u see apple logo. Don't let go before it shows.
I believe most of people here thinks that reboot means just power button and switch off.

I wanna asking about 'update for iBooks'
so, if we already installed 'iBooksFix2' and then, there's an update for iBooks(from App Store), what should we do? remove the 'iBooksFix2' and then update the iBooks from App Store, or just update the iBooks without removing the iBooksFix2?

thanks a lot :)

Worked perfectly for me (3gs iphone). Thanks!

I used the fix after enabling the new multitouch gestures on my iPad 1.
Deleted iBooks first, then downloaded a new version from the app store, didn't open it and installed the fix.
Worked perfectly!
Now I got my 5.0.1 jailbreak, the multitouch gestures and iBooks up and running.
Thanks!

You're a lifesaver. Works perfectly, followed it down to the last step! =)

it works for me. if you will follow exactly every step, it's everything OK:D

Ok...tried xselleize fix for ios + sb settings changes+ Home button and upper off button held together...
Apple Logo......ibooks opens......Read a couple of pages.....its FINE:) thank u all for d help....

I didn't follow these directions to the tee. I even tried the xsellize fix first, which didn't work, then uninstalled that, installed iBooks fix2, attempted to open iBooks and got the error, and then did a hard reboot. Hard reboot solved it. Working for me now on 5.0.1. untethered.
