Apple News delivers a variety of stories from different sources in one app. Stories can be saved in the Apple News app, however this means they must be reread from within the app. Stories can be opened directly in Safari for bookmarking or sharing with a direct link. This option makes it possible to view content outside of the Apple News app.

Listening to audiobooks at bedtime can be a relaxing end to the day. But what if you fall asleep while the book is playing? Much like other apps that offer a sleep timer, the iOS Books app offers this option. Setting a sleep timer on the iPhone only takes a moment. The process of setting a sleep timer is similar in Spotify when listening to music, or in the Podcasts app.

The iPhone has included on-board GPS since the second generation iPhone 3G. With the release of iOS 13, Apple added more granular controls over how apps use location data, giving the user more privacy controls. Location data and privacy issues are back in the news lately, with the addition of ultra wideband location tracking to the iPhone 11. Many apps can use location data in the background, from GPS and other sources.

The iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max introduced Apple's U1 chip with Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology. This feature allows the iPhone to understand its location in relation to other UWB devices, providing what Apple calls "GPS at the scale of your living room". For example, AirDrop knows when you're pointing your iPhone at another iPhone to share content between devices.

Some time ago, Apple added Shazam's music identification abilities to the Siri personal voice assistant. iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users can easily identify music tracks, TV shows, and movies by asking Siri what's playing. Siri listens to the audio and returns whatever results it finds from Shazam. Since Apple has acquired Shazam, full integration with Siri and Apple Music makes the process seamless.
